Corner Cafe will celebrate Rare Disease Day by donating 10% of sales on Thursday, February 29th to raise awareness and funds for Nevus Outreach, a non-profit organization that connects thousands living worldwide with congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN).
Kathi Rule, Owner and Founder, shares “Corner Cafe is rooted in family and community, and we are dedicating a day to support those living with rare diseases.” On November 22, 2023, Jace Allen Huser, nephew of Kathi and Ed Rule, was born with Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus (GCMN) and Neurocutaneous Melonocytosis (NCM), a very large, pigmented birthmark present at birth causing melanin deposits in and along his brain. Jace’s condition affects 1:500,000 and remains incurable.
Nevus Outreach is dedicated to driving awareness, fostering a supportive community, and advancing research for people affected by congenital melanocytic nevi and related conditions. “Our local families are the heartbeat of our awareness efforts for congenital melanocytic nevi and rare conditions. They’re the real champions, turning personal journeys into a powerful force for change. Together, with families like Jace’s, we’re breaking barriers, fostering understanding, and creating a community where everyone feels seen and supported,” shared Lauren Isbell, Executive Director of Nevus Outreach.
